Back.

David's fine, or will be. He had an unfortunate chance encounter on the Pamir Highway with some folks engaging in the time-honored opium trade and wound up with a couple of bullets in his leg. Totally random sort of situation - the folks who ship that crap north out of Afghanistan tend to be a twitchy bunch.

As for myself, I had a brush with altitude sickness (and didn't realize it for nearly a week, yes - I never claimed to be particularly bright). I neglected to remember that the brain that's been through a not-insubstantial amount of trauma this summer might not react well to wandering around one of the highest mountain ranges in the world. Three guesses as to what Moira said about that when I called her from Tel Aviv. It wasn't actually HACE or I certainly wouldn't have lasted the week, but the physiological differences in a psi's brain tend to leave us open to odd manifestations of problems like that. And no, this didn't stop me from climbing mountains regularly when I was younger. I will refer you to my self-assessment above.

Descending to Dunshanbe took care of the problem, as expected. I'm tired, but not ridiculously so. I see I missed quite a bit while I was away. I think I'll wait to catch up until after I've had some sleep.
