Flying trips.
May. 30th, 2006 01:00 pmAngelo, Rahne and I are off to Nicaragua for all of twenty-four hours, for a couple of meetings and an inspection of the site where... wait, I didn't say anything about that publicly, did I? Okay. Homeless mutant kids in Managua (Nicaragua's capital city for the geographically-challenged among you) are being housed in jail as public safety threats, which I believe we can all agree is Not Good.
Hence, I bought a church. Elpis is going to turn it into a shelter and vocational/powers training facility. We're just going down there to get the ball rolling and see if we can't convince the city government to stop scooping kids up off the street. Which means I have to talk to politicians. I'm not sure why I ever thought I was cut out for this job.
Anyway. We'll be back very, very late tomorrow night, barring catastrophe. I'll... bring back fair-trade coffee or something.

Rahne gets to go to Nicaraugua in the middle of finals? So unfair!

Rahne gets to go to Nicaragua because she's special.

Yes, yes I do.
And they let me bring this laptop on the airplane even though I could probably hit people with it.

See, that just makes me wonder how many other problems could be solved by buying a church.
Also, how do you pay for a church? Check, or did you whip out the plastic?

International wire transfer, actually.
And actually, the buying of the church wouldn't mean a whole lot if there weren't people down there fully prepared (and happy) to run the place. It's a question of funding, not will. I think that's the case in a lot of these situations.

Oh, I definitely agree with you, it's just the way you kinda casually tossed it out there like it was the obvious solution. Made me think maybe you had a list, y'know, "Milk, check, Gerber baby applesauce, check, church in Nicaragua, check . . ."

It's also far too much fun to say. "Nicaragua"

>>>Which means I have to talk to politicians<<<
I've never found a problem with that. Mind you, I don't remeber the last time I did it without the aid of incriminating photos...
