I have finished the nursery...
Jun. 27th, 2005 12:24 pmAs in, completely finished. Finally. About bloody time, I know. All the painting and wallpapering is done, all the furniture is bolted down, and hell, even the non-perishable supplies are all stocked up.
It looks very cozy. I'm happy with it. I think Moira's happy with it. Hopefully our little prodigy won't decide to take violent exception to the color scheme or anything. That would be awkward. It's entirely possible to change the color of paint telekinetically, you know. Just a question of rearranging... okay, that's a bad thought.

... that's a very bad thought. Let's avoid thoughts like that in the future.

Didn't you have to practice for a really long time to be able to mess around with molecules and stuff? I'm sure Supermidget* is gonna be all awesome and everything, but I'm thinking maybe not so much with the microscopic wackiness until she's at least teething, especially with you and the Professor and Dr. Grey and all the other geniuses around here looking out for her.
*This is that respectful irreverence thing I do. Am not actually kidding about the kid being awesome. Also, she needs Underoos.

Yes. Taking a deep breath now. Of course she won't be with the microscopic wackiness. I just had my mind go to the bad place, that's all, and I'm just the tiniest bit prone to occasional panic attacks on the subject. Even though I know it's going to be all right. Hurray precognition and evil chocolate.

Eh, you're staring fatherhood square in the face, that's gotta make you go a little odd. Kid's got good genes, gonna get great upbringing, and hey--with your past, how's she even gonna rebel when she hits puberty, join a convent? (Not that that wouldn't be funny.)
And she still needs Underoos.

I'm only going odd now? How very reassuring. Here I thought you'd all written me off as stark raving mad months ago and moved on.
Hmm. Convent... there's a thought. Would save on shotgun ammunition.

*snickers* She'll have 'Auntie Dom' and me as examples. I'm pretty sure no convent'll hold her. But on the up side? She'll have Auntine Dom and me keeping an eye on her too. Between you and Moira, Dom and the Pack, and everyone here, you really think she's going to have a shot at getting into trouble?
And you're not mad. Just balmy. ;)

There's a difference? And balmy is good? Huh.
And I don't want to smother her, either. Part of the fretting is about how much protecting she really is going to need.

There is. Balmy is more along the lines of oddly eccentric, like the Raving Monster Loony party, and mad is just ordinarily insane. :)
See, I think you're just fretting because that's what you do. You aren't happy unless you're worrying about something. She'll be fine. You and Moira will be fine. You're the pre-cog, you should know that. For a start, she's not going to have the fucked-up beginning Dom and I and Meg had, so she's one-up on us from the start.
Besides, she's a psi, isn't she? I'm sure she'll let you know if you're smothering. She'll be your and Moira's daughter - somehow I think she'll be speaking her mind... :)

And she'll have a limited range at first, I'll bet. Means the rest of us are safe when she teeths. You on the other hand? So. Doomed.
:D

There's nothing like being hit with a plastic hippo to make a parent appreciate their child's unique gifts. *snickers*

Or their babysitters, Tinkerbell. I seem to remember seeing you offer. ;) At least I'm getting practice with Meg.

*chuckles* True. Guess that 'Noah's Arc' plastic toyset I got for the kidbit is going to see a lot of use then. (You'd be amazed at what you can get from tourist attractions.) And having been reminded of babysitting, I have to go coax Billy away from Hank so that Carls and I can take care of him for the afternoon.

Hrm. Point.
Silver lining here... oh! I know!
When your kidbit hits teenagehood? I'll have seen it all and just sit by the sidelines, not needing any form of precognition to know what you'll be set up for next! Ha!

I don't need to practice that one. I can do insufferably smug any time of the day. ;)

Congratulations on getting it all done! :) It's a good feeling.
If you'd like, I can bring Billy over to see if a baby test-audience likes it. :)

Sure. Nothing better than getting a seal of approval from another mind in the target audience.
